You Gotta Eat: Brienzo’s Wood Fired Pizza
“PEORIA, Ill. — If you are craving pizza but want something a little more sophisticated than your average take-out, here is you answer.
Brienzo’s is a taste of Italy right here in Peoria.
That was the ultimate goal for Knute Landry and Jody Zimmerman when they opened the restaurant two years ago.
“I wanted to do something unique and different, so I stumbled across this idea my grandmother gave me and we decided to use authentic wood fired pizza,” Knute said.
At first, the business was mobile. The owners, armed with their brick oven, traveled to festivals around central Illinois.
They eventually found a home at Junction City.
The cozy corner hot spot has made quite an impression on locals.
“We provide a unique service, in that we are fast casual restaurant,” said Knute.
They offer a variety of beer and wine on tap.
The real story, though, is the pizza. It comes in one size, about 11 inches around- just like the Italians make it.
One trip to Brienzos, and it is clear why Peorians have an appetite for this unique pizza.
The total for two pizzas, two soft drinks and a salad was $33.59.
Brienzo’s Wood Fired Pizza is located in the Junction City Shopping Center at 5901 N. Prospect in Peoria.”
